CMDF was created to invest into strengthening and transforming Belarusian communities. It unites efforts of a range of international non-governmental and non-profit organizations with extensive working experience in Belarus. The Fund was established at the end of 2009 by Pact, a non-governmental and non-profit organization with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Up until now CMDF considered more than 350 projects proposed by Belarusian organizations and community initiatives, out of which more than 50 were supported.
The aim of CMDF is to expand understanding of the role and actions of communities by supporting their ability to influence those spheres of life, which are of crucial importance for Belarusian people. This is why we are glad to see “new faces” and making an effort to make the Fund accessible for community initiatives lacking experience of project development and management. Therefore already in 2010 we introduced a simplified process with priority shifted from the orderliness of a project proposal to the core of community action and initiative – an idea. Since then any citizen, community initiative or public organization has been able to share the main idea of their activity with us without investing extra time into “paper work”. CMDF staff, in their turn, provide consultative support during the process of compiling full-scale projects out of the most presentable ideas. This innovation increased the flow of ideas from community initiatives, which previously did not take an active part in the community life.
